DIY Dragon Skirt

Hi, my dear readers ♥

Today I want to show you another one of my upcycling creations !
Don't worry, no more tie dyed bedsheets =D This time I upcycled an old kitschy fantasy t-shirt of my husband !

I had this t-shirt in my stash for quite some time without any plan on my mind... until one day I run out of black thread which I'm using for making harnesses, but I was still in mood for some sewing so I dived into my materials and found it again... and suddenly idea appeared - what if I make a pencil skirt out of it ? Yeah, I know, I have some really weird sense of thinking...

Inspired by Annika's videos and her advices I decided to find as many tutorials as possible and don't make it in my usual (random) way. I wanted the skirt to look really good and as much professional as possible !

I ended up using these two
and

Here are some process photos ♪

I didn't manage to persuade my printer to make the pattern in real size, so I was just...trying to re-draw it on the fabric in bigger size <_<
(If you're going to do this, please  print it in the real size - you save a lot of time and nerves)

This is such a cool way to do an elastic waistband ! I can't wait to use it again *o*

 It looks so clean !

Tadaaah ♪

I couldn't believe how amazing the skirt is !
It fits PERFECTLY and you know - DRAGONS ♥
Same as ravens there are dragons re-appearing everywhere in my life... it's even my Chinese horoscope sign... the only thing with dragons missing in my life is a tattoo... I need to work on this one !

 Daenerys would be proud♥

I wore my new dragon skirt for a walk around Munich with Honza and Satan. We discovored some new places, had a gluten-free pizza, Honza took a lot of b&w photos and I caught A LOT of Pokémons by the river =D

Have a beautiful day, everyone ♥

DIY Deer Hoodie

Hi, my dear readers ♥

Remember the "Make Thrift Buy Community Challenge" I did before Halloween? I participated in the December challenge as well !
The project of the month was this deer hoodie (from Taobao, I think)

I have to confess that I was waiting for this project since the first voting, because I already had an old brown hoodie, idea how to make it and most importantly - I love deer-themed clothing ♥

Since I´m not really sure about my skills of sewing tiny complicated objects like antlers and animal ears, I decided to use the technique I´m 100% sure about and I love doing - KNITTING !

What did I use ?
old brown hoodie, yarn leftovers, felting yarn leftover, skein of brown yarn (the only thing I had to buy - 2euro), Woodland Knits by Stephanie Dosen

I made the antlers according to a knitting pattern for the "Deer Hat" from Woodland Knits (as you probably remember, I already made 3 of these hats, so I almost knew it from memory ha ha =D).
I used felting yarn in ivory and double-pointed needles n.6

Felted antlers with hot water and soap to give them better shape

While the antlers where drying up, I knitted a pair of ears. According to the same pattern as before.

I crocheted 6 spots from leftover yarn. No pattern used - it´s just two rounds of double crochets ...

Ready to sew everything on hoodie !

... and the result !

I´m super-happy about how the hoodie looks now ! I can´t wait to spring to wear every day *_*
(...but at the same time I miss the beautiful snow we had while taking photos)

Feel free to upgrade your old hoodie the same way ♥
The pattern for Deer Hat is available on Stephanie Dosen´s website

I´m still not sure if I will participate in this month´s challenge. The project is a scalloped skirt... and I´m not sure if I need another skirt <_< but I have some pretty fabric leftovers from the classic lolita skirt I made for Porcelain Doll last week, so maybe ...
actually I have an idea how to do it already, but I´m also participating in knitting challenge, so I have no idea if I will make everything on time

Have a beautiful day, everyone ♥

DIY Skeleton Suspenders - I´M READY FOR HALLOWEEN

Hi, my dear readers ♥

Halloween post is here ha ha =D
I decided to do it a few days earlier in case someone gets inspired and would like to craft the same skeleton suspenders like I did ♪

Yeah, you read right - skeleton suspenders !
At first I didn´t have any plans for Halloween crafting, but then I joined a great facebook group called "Make Thrift Buy Community Challenge" created by amazing Annika Victoria ♥ The idea of this group is to re-create things from usual shops in much cheaper and ethical way =) There will be voting every month and members will decide what will be the project of the month.
For October won this skirt from Choies which I would never ever buy, because it´s just a seasonal sweatshop piece of ...fabric =D but try to make it on my own sounds great, so I gave it a try - even thought I don´t wear spooky goth things like this anymore...

When you´re finished with the project - doesn´t matter if it worked or it was a disaster - you should share some photos of the progress, materials and total price. So I though when I have all these photos already I will share it with you on my blog as well =)

Making this was a lot of fun and cost me almost nothing - in case you want to make it, too and you´re from Czech Republic it will be even cheaper ...

So... this is how the finished thing looks

It´s a bit funny, I know - but it´s Halloween =D !

WHAT DID I USE
• Halloween skirt I made a few years ago
• old broken suspenders
• thick felt fabric
• fabric colour + black marker
• 2 new suspender clips

HOW I MADE IT

1. I repaired the suspenders and made them as long as I needed

2. Sketched the bones on the felt fabric with pencil according to some reference from internet

3. I tried fabric paint first, but it was too thick so I used just a normal black marker to do the lines

4. cut out

5. Pinned it on the suspenders

6. sew it on with cross stitch

FINISHED ♥

That was pretty easy, right ? No need to support evil stores like Choies when you can make it in one afternoon =)

And here´s my whole Halloween outfit !
I combined the skirt with the cutest crochet pumpin hat made by Han ♥ and my VERY FIRST PAIR OF KNITTED SOCKS !!! I finally made it ! I´m a free elf now

(I had too much fun with those stickers on pixlr =D ha ha)

Let me know if you´ll make some spooky suspenders as well !
Have a great Halloween / Samhain / October 31st everyone ♥

Shawl from an Old T-shirt - DIY tutorial

Hi, my dear readers ♥

After ages I´m here with DIY tutorial again ! yay =D
Lately I´ve been collecting old textiles whenever my husband was cleaning his wardrobe I snatch all of his old t-shirts and put them on a growing pile in my work room with "this will be useful one day, I´m sure about it"
I have a lot of plans and ideas what to do with all these wash-out, old, ugly t-shirts, hoodies and bed sheets, but I hardly find time and motivation to spend an afternoon with sewing something for myself...

Until I discovered that I really need a black or dark-colored shawl...not knitted, just something light made of fabric, with a bit of ragged look, matching to my strega fashion outfits... and I went to the shops, because I was lazy...and couldn´t find a THING >_< everything is small or made of really synthetic materials and of course made in sweatshops... ugh, so I had no other choice than make in on my own !

I had a feeling that this is going to be pretty easy, so I took photos of it while making it ♪ I´m not really good with explaining, so if you don´t understand anything, just ask me in the comments or in e-mail =)

Sooo this is how it looks

cool, right? I really like it =D

WHAT DO YOU NEED
- old t-shirt, size L and bigger
- scissors
- sewing machine / or you can do it in hand, why not ...
-  thread, needle
- fabric / decoration of your choice

I used some really ugly pajamas t-shirt which my husband probably wore back in school - it had this terrible 90´s print in front and awful colour. So I tie dyed it before, but you don ´t have to do it =)

1. put the t-shirt wrong side out

2. cut-off both sleeves, the neck part, side seams and you can cut-off the bottom seams as well if you want

3. now you have two rectangles, cut one like this ↓↓↓ to make two triangles

4. put one on each side of the rectangle and cut the bottom so it all makes together
ONE-BIG-TRIANGLE !

5. sew those three parts together - you can use overlock machine, elastic stitch or just a zig zag stitch on normal sewing machine... or you can sew it together with hand to give it more postapocalyptic look =)

It will look like this

If you want something simple - you´ve finished your new shawl right now ! congrats =)

... but if you have a huge stash of various fabric leftovers or some other interresting things, you can decorate it like I did

I used this mesh fabric...
(In my goth days I bought kilometers of it)

... randomly pinned it somewhere on the upper part of the shawl ...

...and sew it on the shawl with normal stitch

...and that´s it =)
FINISHED

This is how it looks ♥

At the same day I also tie dyed an old bed sheet and re-created it in an elven cape, but the process was too complicated for me to make a tutorial from it, BUT I will give you the measurements and the pattern so you can try it as well... but let´s leave this for some other time =)

Now you may ask "why OLD? Why everything old ?!"
Of course you can do this scarf from a new t-shirt, but... that´s just the half of fun and not even a bit ecological ...
Inspired by amazing Raintower together with my obsession with ethical fashion I want to recycle as much clothes as possible and give them new life in shape of something else =) it´s fun, it´s easy, it´s cheap ... what more to wish for?

If you have the same interest in recycling old textiles I highly recomend you to read or watch some tutorials by Annika Victoria - here
or join the new crafting group on facebook, created by Annika as well - the idea of this community is to vote for some DIY project each month and then create it all together and share your progress, fails and achievements =) This month it´s a spooky halloween skirt with skeleton hand suspenders ! I already have all the material and I will start next week with crafting *o*

I hope you like this tutorial and let me know if you made the shawl as well !

Have a beautiful day, everyone ♥
